Starting from a spoiled, lonely childhood,
Raised by parents who knew nothing of discipline and even less about love,
Religion that inspired his development, but never really understood him or his kind of pain,
Sexless marriage that resulted in a dark miscarriage and apparently inconvenient child,
Substances he turned to as self-medication,

He was as he’d like to be; broken.

And so he set off, with a tattoo on his ring finger and cross on his back that no longer kept the same meaning.
The open relationship he found months after his divorce, with a girl a decade younger was perhaps retaliation against the normalcy that previously constrained him, or perhaps it made him feel like he could start all over and make up for the youth he missed.

Either way, his fall from “Messenger of God” to the “Son of the Devil’s Will” was not gracious,
But gracious is not his style.
Here I am, some time after all this.
The girl, also a decade younger, who he met at the bar and told all his secrets to.
Though I appear to understand, all I can do is analyze.

He performs for me.
He dances impressively in hopes that I’ll love the person he is.
To be honest, I can’t decide,
But I don’t feel I need to.

No matter what I think or what anyone else thinks,
He’ll still be the Little Prince.

Betty talks to Sally about kissing boys.

B: I want you to know that I think Ernie Hansen is a very nice little boy. But I don’t want you just running around kissing boys.

S: I wasn’t.

B: And you don’t kiss boys; boys kiss you.

    The first kiss is very special.

S: But I already did it. It’s over.

B: You’re going to have a lot of first kisses.

    You’re going to want it to be special,

    so you remember.

    It’s where you go from being a stranger to knowing someone.
